Wiring Guide
Before you begin: Confirm your existing switch uses only 2 wires. If you see 3 wires, you will need a 3-wire switch instead.
- Turn off power to the ceiling fan at the circuit breaker.
- Use a wire stripper to cut and remove the old light switch.
- Strip approximately ½ inch of insulation from both black wires.
- Connect one black wire from the new switch to one black wire from the ceiling fan.
- Connect the remaining black wire from the switch to the remaining black wire from the fan.
- Secure each connection with wire connectors by twisting clockwise until snug.
- Tuck all wires neatly and restore power to test.
⚠️ Safety Note: All wire connections must be properly secured. Loose connections can create a fire hazard or electrical shock risk. If you are unsure, consult a licensed electrician.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is the Zing Ear ZE-109 compatible with all ceiling fans?
A: The ZE-109 two-wire pull chain switch is compatible with the vast majority of standard ceiling fans and fan-mounted canopy light kits that use a 2-wire switch configuration. If your existing switch has 3 wires, you will need a 3-wire replacement switch instead.
Q: How do I know if I need a 2-wire or 3-wire pull chain switch?
A: Simply open the canopy or housing where the switch is mounted and count the number of wires connected to the existing switch. If there are 2 wires, the ZE-109 is the correct replacement. If there are 3 wires, you will need a 3-wire variant.
Q: Can I install this ceiling fan light switch myself?
A: Yes — the ZE-109 is designed for straightforward DIY installation. Always turn off the power at the circuit breaker before starting, follow the step-by-step wiring guide, and make sure all wire connections are tightly secured. If you are not comfortable working with electrical components, consult a licensed electrician.
Q: Why does this package include 2 switches?
A: The 2-pack offers great value — use one switch as an immediate replacement and keep the second as a spare, or use both to upgrade two fans at once. Bronze pull chain switches are a common replacement item, so having an extra on hand saves time and money down the road.
