How to Use – Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Park the donor vehicle close to the flat-battery vehicle so both batteries are within cable reach. Turn off both engines.
  2. Attach the red clamp to the positive (+) terminal of the flat battery.
  3. Attach the other red clamp to the positive (+) terminal of the donor battery.
  4. Attach the black clamp to the negative (−) terminal of the donor battery.
  5. Attach the other black clamp to an unpainted metal earth point on the flat-battery vehicle (away from the battery).
  6. Start the donor vehicle and let it run for 2–3 minutes, then attempt to start the flat-battery vehicle.
  7. Once started, remove the clamps in reverse order: black from earth point → black from donor battery → red from donor battery → red from previously flat battery.

⚠️ Safety Note: Always ensure clamps are firmly attached and cables are clear of moving engine parts before starting either vehicle. Remove leads promptly after the engine is running to avoid any electrical risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What vehicles are these 500A jump start cables compatible with?

A: These booster cables are universally compatible with most standard 12V passenger cars, SUVs, hatchbacks, and light trucks. They are not recommended for heavy-duty diesel trucks, which typically require a higher-rated cable set.

Q: Is 1.8 metres long enough to connect two vehicles?

A: Yes — 1.8 metres is a standard jump cable length that provides sufficient reach when two vehicles are parked side-by-side or nose-to-nose. Ensure the cars are positioned as close together as safely possible before connecting.

Q: How do I know which clamp goes where?

A: The colour coding makes it simple: the red clamp always connects to the positive (+) terminal and the black clamp always connects to the negative (−) terminal or an earth point. Never connect positive to negative — always follow the step-by-step connection guide included above.

Q: Can I leave the jump cables connected while driving?

A: No — the cables should be removed immediately after the previously flat vehicle's engine is running. Leaving them connected while driving poses a safety risk and could cause electrical damage to either vehicle.
